Ben Spencer

Registered Veterinary Technician

Hi I'm Ben. The reason I became a Veterinary Technician is because from a very young age I have loved animals and known that I wanted to work with them. I grew up in the south of England with a German Shepherd named Sade, two guinea pigs; Zig and Zag, a budgie called Woody and our hamster Scratchy. Unfortunately, my dad is allergic to cats or I'm pretty sure we would have had a cat too. Fast forward a few years and our family moved to New Brunswick, Canada and then I moved to Nova Scotia to take a Veterinary Technician program at Dalhousie Agricultural College. I graduated in 2015 and was offered a position at the Ontario Veterinary College as an x-ray technician plus on call hours to assist with small and large animal surgeries. After a year and a half of being there I moved back to Nova Scotia and joined the Clayton Park team. After doing an interview with Jen we concluded that Clayton Park would be a great fit for me, so I started working here in January. The part of my job that keeps me interested and excited the most is that there is never a dull moment and always something new to learn. However, the part of my job I love the most is the turnaround of patients. To see a patient coming in so sick and then being sent home feeling a lot better and then to call up the owner in a weeks’ time to hear that the patient is back to their normal self, there is nothing like that. My favorite thing about working at Clayton Park is the staff, everyone is happy to help and give advice to each other and in doing so we learn and grow as a clinic.
