Miranda R.

Pet Care Attendant/Veterinary Assistant

I graduated from Maritime Business College in September of 2016 with my Veterinary Assistant diploma. I have always had a passion for animals, so I felt it was natural to get into the veterinary field. I had intended on becoming a veterinary assistant right out of school. When the job at the Resort was offered to me, I couldn't turn it down. I had the hospital upstairs and the daycare downstairs and it all presented new and exciting learning opportunities. Plus, who wouldn't want to play with puppies all day?

I love learning about dog behaviour and training. We have learned so much about animals in the past few decades and thanks to that there are so many new and better ways of training being introduced. It's something we as pet owners should always stay on top of. Learning how your dog learns can help you teach them. Learning your dog's signals and boundaries can help you become a better companion for your dog. My first dog was a Lhasa Apso mix named Bo.

I love the dogs and their pet parents. I love that when they come in that door in the morning, the dogs are so excited to see us. They're so excited to head in for a day of playing with their friends and that makes their people that much happier as well. To know their dogs are in good hands and are genuinely enjoying staying here with us. Those wagging tails and sloppy morning kisses are the best part of my day for sure. My favourite thing about the clinic is how well we all work together. There is always going to be tough days, but I know with the help of our team we can get through any day. A fun fact about myself is that I was the Team captain of the Hali Youth Slam Poetry team in 2015.
