Microchipping a Dog

One of the worst nightmares that a dog owner can live through is if that beloved dog gets lost. While it is a scary reality for some, some steps can be taken to ease your mind if such a thing should occur. The most important step to take is microchipping.

Why is it important to ensure my dog is microchipped?

Microchipping is a way to reunite a lost dog with its family. The information contained on that chip is exclusive to the pet and owner. If your dog gets lost and is taken to a veterinary hospital, the veterinary professionals will check for a microchip in an attempt to get the dog back home. When a microchip is found, you can be contacted and informed that your pet is safe and eager to get back home.

How does a microchip work and is it safe?

A microchip is a small piece of technology that is connected via an identification number to an extensive database where information is kept. The chip is placed under the pet’s skin between the shoulder blades, which is done by injecting the microchip under the skin. The process takes only seconds and has no side effects and no recovery time. Your pet won’t even realize that it’s there. Once inserted under the skin, the chip is readable by the use of a scanner. The number associated with the chip can be used to retrieve the pet’s information, as well as the owner’s contact details from the database.
