Caring for a Senior Pet

As your pets get older, the care that they need will change. Below are five tips to help in caring for your ageing furry loved one.

  1. It is recommended that you visit the veterinarian on a regular basis, every six months. There are a lot of diseases and health issues that can be treated when caught early enough.
  2. Don’t neglect their teeth. It is recommended to do regular brushing and yearly cleanings with a veterinarian. Tartar can cause gingivitis which can cause bacteria and cause havoc on your pets’ organs.
  3. Keep them at a healthy weight. Extra pounds add extra stress on their body, including joints and organs. If you think they may have some weight to lose talk to your veterinarian as there are diets that can assist with this.
  4. Feed them a nutritious diet. This is critical to keeping them active and playful. Your vet can make recommendations about quality brands, ingredients or special formulas your senior dog needs to thrive.
  5. Help them get enough exercise. It will keep them healthy both physically and mentally. Keeping them lean as they will help in preventing health issues.
