Myths on Corn

Corn is a very valuable ingredient with lots of beneficial nutrients.

Myth: Its just a filler

Fillers have no nutritional value. Corn is full of valuable nutrients that help with the skin and coat such as antioxidants, vitamin A & B, amino acids and fatty acids.

Myth: It’s not digestible

Whole corn is not digestible but when the outer shell is broken and finely ground it allows digestive enzymes to break down fat, carbohydrates and protein.

Corn is NOT a common cause of allergies. Cats and dogs can develop allergies to any protein although only 10% of allergy skin conditions are caused from food. The most common is beef, dairy and fish, corn doesn’t even make the list.

The antioxidants in corn can potentially reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease, arthritis, strokes and cataracts.

Myth: “wild dogs don’t eat corn”

Yes dogs and cats in the wild may not eat corn directly but remember they eat herbivores and the prey eat plant material. They eat the entire prey including the stomach which contains plant materials.
