Camping with Dogs

Camping season is upon us and a lot of people want to bring their dogs with them to share in the outdoor experience.

Here are a few tips to consider when planning for an outdoor trip. Like the Scouts Motto says: “Be Prepared”

  • Let your dog check out the camping gear.
  • Set up the tent and let him/her go inside
  • Wear a headlamp while walking to get them used to it
  • Make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccines, microchip ID is updated and they have flea/tick/deworming medications.
  • Put your cell phone number on their collar ID tag.
  • Add dog food and supplies to your camping checklist.
  • Make sure to check the campsite rules to see what their pet policy is.
  • Bring a stake with a lead so you have somewhere to tie them up.
  • Bring lots of biodegradable waste bags to keep the campsite and trails clean.
  • Make sure to check your dog daily for ticks, burrs and thorns.
  • Take lots of pictures and have fun!
