What is pet euthanasia and how do I know when it’s the right time?
Pet owners often ask us “How will I know when it’s the right time?”. Deciding when to say goodbye to your pet is something only you as their beloved guardian can do. Many people look to see when their pet stops doing his/her favourite things like greeting them at the door, going for walks, looking for that special treat, etc. Other folks feel the time is right when the bad days outweigh the good and quality of life is a concern. What drug is used?
A highly concentrated anesthetic agent is administered to your pet intravenously and acts quickly and painlessly by putting your pet into a deep sleep where the heart and internal organs immediately cease to work.
What’s the cost of euthanasia?
One of the many questions you will be faced with when saying goodbye is how you wish to care for your pets’ remains. Aftercare choices include communal cremation, private cremation (with ashes returned to you in an urn of your choosing), or private burial if you have a special place outside of city limits. Once you have decided on aftercare, we can better advise you of the total costs.
Does the clinic also provide bereavement counselling?
Most of us working in veterinary medicine have experienced the loss of a pet and understand how difficult the grieving process can be. We are always here to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. Professional counselling can be very helpful to some pet owners struggling to cope with their pets’ passing; please ask us about the resources available.
