Dog X-ray

Essential tools for a veterinary exam is to ask specific questions about the pet and to perform a physical exam by looking at and feeling all parts of the animal. Even though a wealth of information can be gained this way, some illnesses or injuries can remain hidden. One method of discovering what is happening inside your pet is with radiography.

How do you use x-ray and radiology services at your clinic?

Radiography, also known as x-rays, allows us to see the tissues and bones inside of an animal. With this technology, we can identify broken bones, foreign objects in the digestive tract, changes in the size of organs, and many more clues to help us understand what is making your pet sick.

How do you prepare your dog for their x-ray appointment?

To take a radiograph, the pet must be held still on the x-ray table. Depending on the area we want to look at, they may be held with gentle restraint on their side, their back, or with a leg extended. Most animals tolerate this very well. However, if a pet is already feeling discomfort, these positions may be too painful for them. In these cases, we will give the pet a sedative and a pain medication to make them relaxed and more comfortable. We will inform you if your pet needs to fast before their x-ray appointment.
