Cats & Drinking

Most cats are known for not drinking enough water.  We recommended that our cats, in particular, our male cats, be encouraged to drink plenty of water to help prevent urinary problems.

This can be challenging but here are some suggestions:

1. Leaving several bowls of water down in different areas of the home can encourage more water intake throughout the day.
2. Be sure to change the water source daily to maintain freshness.
3. Adding canned food to your cat’s diet (high moisture content) can help with hydration.
4. Some cats prefer the flow of water (fountain or tap).

Find out what your cat prefers and make it a routine. Consult with a Veterinarian if you find your cat is not drinking adequately. Ruling out of many underlying medical conditions may be required.
