The Risks of Being an Outdoor Cat

Cats are curious creatures who love to roam and explore. The outside world is full of birds to hunt, trees to climb and sun patches to roll in – so why doesn’t everyone let their cat go outside? There are many reasons why it’s safer for a cat indoors. Below is a list of things that outdoor cats experience:

1. Increased safety risk from cars, predatorial wildlife and people who are not kind to pets
2. Increased risk of contracting a communicable disease like FIV and FELV
3. Increased risk of contracting parasites like fleas, ticks, roundworms
4. Increased risk of coming into contact with toxins like antifreeze
5. Increased risk of becoming trapped eg. In sheds, under-car hoods
6. Increased risk of fight wounds from other outdoor animals
